First week with a newborn

First couple of weeks with a newborn are amazing, you get to know the little bundle of joy and unconditional love.

But it can also be challenging, so here are my Top 5 Tips & Tricks that has made it a bit easier for us.

1. GroEgg: GroEgg is an egg shaped lamp showing the room temperature and illuminate I different colours depending on temperature. Yellow is the colour you’re aiming for having a recommended room temperature between 16-20 degrees Celsius. It also has a gentle dim light that is perfect for feeding when waking up middle of the night.

2. Separate bedrooms: There’s no point in both of you being exhausted. As Tomas is working and need to get up early in the morning and be rested, I take the nights with Alice. Usually she sleeps from 11pm until 3am wake up for a feed and then sleep until 6am when Tomas take her for a bottle feed with milk I expressed earlier.

3. Expressing milk: Breastfeeding is an amazing way to bound with your baby! I breastfeed about 70% of the times and express the rest. Expressing has two, or wait three benefits. 1. Tomas get to bound with Alice. 2. My sore nipples get a break. 3. The extra hours of sleep that I get in the morning when Tomas take Alice for a feed are priceless! (Link here for the breast pump that I use: link).

4. Nuna: This rocker chair is amazing! Alice can spend hours in it during the day which allows me to do some housework (Link).

5. Walks: Walks has been so refreshing for me, and for Alice. I get a chance to stretch my legs and get some fresh air. It is also an easy solution when Alice is in a bad mood and I need her to nap, she always falls asleep in the pram. (Link here for the pram that we use: link).

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask them below. I know how hard the first time can be so if anyone is struggling I’m more than happy to share other tips and tricks that has worked for us.

xx Maria
