If someone told me in 2012 when I visited Riga for the first time, that I would come back here in five years and fly fighter jets! I’d never believed them!
The opportunities and access I gained thanks to my social channels, and above all thanks to all of you who read this, who support me and been with me from the beginning, who make my channels live, without you I would never have had these opportunities! To you Thank You!
MigFlug (link) contacted @mariathepilot @flymalin and me in November last year and since then we have been planned and awaited the right opportunity to allow us to fly with the Baltic Bees and their L-39 Albatros team!
Together with Malin and Maria, Pete, Bobby and Tony, we stayed one week in Riga, filled with totally INSANE adventures, filming and unforgettable memories. It would not have been an exaggeration to say that this has been the most eventful and absolutely coolest trips that I ever went on! Never could I have known, 2012 when I did my MCC (Multi Crew Coordination) course at Air Baltic 737 sim center that there was so much to do in this magical city!
We had incredible luck with the weather, 25 degrees and sunshine every day! Day one we spent going so-called location scouting and met Philipp and Flavio who are the owners of @MigFlug and who invited us to Riga and the fighter jet experience. Everyone can become a fighter pilot for a day! Visit www.migflug.com for more information. They offer everything from T-33 in Canada, Albatros L- 39 in Riga (which was the one we flew with) to Mig-29 “Edge of Space” If I had the chance to fly the Albatros again I would do it without even having to blink! It is undoubtedly one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever done !!
Fighter jet day !! The day we all been waiting for! We were briefed by the Baltic Bees lead pilot @artyomsoloduha he told us we would fly up to 4-4.5 G-forces, depending on what we could take. We would join them on one of their training flights, a 45 minutes aerobics flight that would start with four loops over the field “If you manage that without black out, you’re going to be fine” he said.
Followed by briefing with the entire @Baltic Bees team. I got the honor to fly with Anatoly Perekriosto “Maestro” and Right Wing Man. Maria flew with Igor Yudkin “Major” Left Wing Man and Malin with the lead pilot Artyom Soloduha “Maverick”
“IF i call your name three times “Maria, Maria, Maria” – pull the red handle and everything will happen automatically” What did he mean … if something happened!? This was 100 % safe, right? The idea that something could actually go wrong had never hit me, before now. My adrenaline pumped from 100% to 1000!! If something happens, pull the red handle and basically leave everything to destiny!!
When lined up on the runway, and I saw Malin and Maria !! They were there, just a few meters away from me, and it felt completely surreal that we were flying in formation, I could see them all the time, right there next to me! We kept waving at each other, I was so happy to see them, and share this with them! Words can not describe how grateful I am for this experience and the opportunities our social channels offers us!
Day three! Drifting !! Just driving and turning a bit I thought! Until I started looking at YouTube tutorials and reading about it, there was a whole science !! I considered myself a good driver and didn´t want to disappoint anyone, and especially not myself!
We drove to Race Track 333 (333) to meet Raivis Graudins @puxxx, we thought they would put us in an empty parking lot and let us try a doughnut, but not!! They put us right in the race track with other experienced drivers! We went a few laps with Raivis in his self built BMW! I had no idea how much I would come to love this motor sport, but I am completely sold! We tried a few laps in his BMW with him driving. Then he let us try it ourselves. First lap he helped me with the hydraulically handbrake, it takes some technique to get a good run and I did not put in enough force in the brake at first to get a proper drift. Second lap I managed to get some squeeze in the tiers and a tiny bit of smoke haha. I could have done this all day! Drifting is definitely something I would like to try again and I’m considering taking a week’s course somewhere, some tips on where to do it? (Comment below)
Last day with the full crew, we went to Skrunda an abandoned Soviet military city. Rumors says Skrunda close for the public sometime in 2017, so now is a good time to go there. It was unreal! A whole city houses, hotels, hospitals, schools and even a prison completely abandoned! It was almost as if someone were watching over our every step, not in a scary way, more interesting, historical and calming way.
The next day, Maria went to Tenerife. Malin and I stayed a few days extra with the Toronto boys. Something I always wanted to try on is controlled gun target shooting. I have great respect for weapons and would not say that I stand for what they were created for, but in some way it was still adrenaline filled to visit a shooting range, my entire body was shaking and filled with adrenaline. We got to test four different weapons, including AK (which was one of my favorite weapons during my CS-Go time :))
I look forward to new adventure with the #fomo group and where the next opportunity takes us!
